Hey Guys,
I've decided to add a new addition to my blog when it comes to beauty reviews. Today will be my first Beauty Box Throw Down. As many of you know, I have been subscribed to BoxyCharm for a few years now and do monthly box reviews. I recently signed up for Ipsy's Glam Bag Plus and this will be my second month getting that box. Since I am signed up for BoxyLuxe I will only be doing this when I get both boxes that are comparable in price. Beauty Box Throw Down will be very similar to the regular reviews that I do where I show the products, link the products, share my thoughts, and the box total value. However, the difference with this is that I will also let you guys know which box that I think is a better value. So lets jump right in!
Beauty Box Throw Down: BoxyCharm Aug 2019 vs Ipsy Glam Bag Plus Aug 2019
First I'm going to share my thoughts on my BoxyCharm for August! For those of you unfamiliar with BoxyCharm, it is a monthly beauty subscription box. You receive 4-5 FULL SIZED products each month. The subscription is $21.00 a month and usually has a theme. They also offer an upgraded box every quarter called BoxyLuxe. This is an additional $28.99 a quarter.  The theme for August is "Totally Boxy". I was pretty excited to see that a Becca Powder and Tarte Mascara was going to be featured in the box.  Keep reading to see what I got and to hear my thoughts. Also, make sure to check out the discount codes below for the month!

Becca Hydra-Mist Set & Refresh Powder $39.00
Beauty Box Throw Down: BoxyCharm Aug 2019 vs Ipsy Glam Bag Plus Aug 2019
I have never tried any Becca loose powders before so I was really excited to get this! I have never even heard of the Hydra Mist Set & Refresh Powder before. This is seriously SO cool. It feels wet and cool on your skin but its not. I have no clue how else to describe it. The power itself works really well at setting makeup and controlling oil. My one issue is I got the lighter shade and since its the summer the darker shade probably would have worked better. That's not a big deal though since its the end of the summer and I wills tart getting lighter as we come into the fall.

Wander Beauty Glow Ahead Illuminating Face Oil $42.00
Beauty Box Throw Down: BoxyCharm Aug 2019 vs Ipsy Glam Bag Plus Aug 2019
I really wasn't excited to get this. I just don't like oil products for your face. Whether it be primers or serums I just am not a fan. I still haven't decided if I am going to try this or pass it on.

Tarte Big Ego Mascara $23.00
Beauty Box Throw Down: BoxyCharm Aug 2019 vs Ipsy Glam Bag Plus Aug 2019
I am really excited that I got this new Tarte mascara. I wear mascara almost every day so I am always open to trying new ones to see which ones I like. This one looks promising!

Steve Laurant Lip Liner $15.00
Beauty Box Throw Down: BoxyCharm Aug 2019 vs Ipsy Glam Bag Plus Aug 2019
Normally I would be happy to get a nude lip liner because that is the main color I use. However, this product just wasn't good. It was not creamy and not very pigmented. It also tugged at the lips. It was a fail for me.

Here is a swatch of the lip liner:

Ace Beaute Glimmer Shadow Duo $25.00
Beauty Box Throw Down: BoxyCharm Aug 2019 vs Ipsy Glam Bag Plus Aug 2019
I'm pretty sure we have recieved products from Ace Beaute before in our boxes. However, I've never seen these shadows. They remind me of ColourPop shadows except more expensive. I'm glad I got the more neutral shadows of the two. However, they are still more colorful and vibrant than I usually wear. They are SUPER pretty  but I do wish there was less glitter. I do prefer ColourPop shadows over these but they were nice to try out.

PUR Cosmetics- 20% off site wide with code: BOXYAUG
Ace Beaute- 25% off site wide with code: BOXY25
Steve Laurant- 20% off site wide with code BOXY20

Overall, this box was good but not my favorite. I am really excited to try the Tarte Big Ego Mascara and the Becca Hydra-Mist Set and Refresh is really cool! I think these two products alone made the box WELL worth it. The shadows were nice but I wasn't in love with them. The face oil and lip liner were misses for me.  It was still a good value. I can't wait for BoxyLuxe for September. So far the spoilers are promising even though there have been some issues that I will discuss in my review of that box.

Next up is Ipsy Glam Bag Plus!  I'm going to share my thoughts on my GBP for August! For those of you unfamiliar with Ipsy Glam Bag, it is a monthly beauty subscription box. You receive 5 deluxe/sample sized products each month. The subscription is $12.00 a month and usually has a theme. They also offer an upgraded box every month called Ipsy Glam Bag Plus. This box is $25.00 a month and includes 5 FULL SIZED products. They also just released yet ANOTHER box called Ipsy Ultimate which I believe was created to compete with BoxyLuxe. This box is $50.00 a MONTH and included 8 FULL SIZED products and 4 deluxe/sample sized products. I am currently only subscribed to Ipsy Glam Bag Plus. Starting in October ALL boxes will come with a makeup bag and we will be able to pick one product in our box (GBP & GBU). Glam Bag you will be able to pick two.

July was my first month with Glam Blag Plus and it was a pretty negative experience. I signed up for the Huda Beauty Palette featured in the Box and not only did it arrive completely broken but my replacement went missing and arrived broken as well. Customer service was responsive but I don't feel like they took my concerns serious. They did refund me $5.00 and change for the broken palette and sent me some little samples but I just wanted the palette. That was the whole reason I signed up for the box. I ended up buying the palette for $15.00 off another person because I had FOMO so bad. So GBP wasn't really off to a great start. I decided to give it another try this month and hoped everything arrived in one piece.

The theme for August is "Bare Yourself". I was super excited to see that there was going to be a Tarte palette in this box. There are usually variations for products so I had my fingers crossed that I would get that palette.  Keep reading to see what I got and to hear my thoughts. Also, make sure to check out the discount codes below for the month!

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation Full Coverage Moisturizer $39.00
Beauty Box Throw Down: BoxyCharm Aug 2019 vs Ipsy Glam Bag Plus Aug 2019
I was happy to see this product in the box. Like mascara, I wear foundation almost every day. I am always open to try new brands and formulas. Especially when they are included in a subscription box as a fraction of the normal price. They sent me the light shade which is my normal shade but since its the summer it will be too light. I am interested in trying this out to see how it compared to their CC cream which is far too greasy for  my skin.

Ahava Hydration Cream Mask $33.00
Beauty Box Throw Down: BoxyCharm Aug 2019 vs Ipsy Glam Bag Plus Aug 2019
I wasn't too excited to see this face mask in this box because I'm pretty sure I already got it in one of my previous FabFitFun boxes. If I do in fact already have it, I will save it for a giveaway or gift it to someone.

SUVA Beauty Liquid Chrome Illuminating Drops in Trust Fund $26.00
Beauty Box Throw Down: BoxyCharm Aug 2019 vs Ipsy Glam Bag Plus Aug 2019
I've never been interested in liquid highlighters. I just think they are messy and maybe I don't know how to apply them right. That being said they are a pretty color. I haven't decided if I am going to try these or not.

F.A.R.A.H. Brushes Show Me Magic Eye Brush Set $50.00
Beauty Box Throw Down: BoxyCharm Aug 2019 vs Ipsy Glam Bag Plus Aug 2019
These brushes seem super expensive considering I've never even heard of this brand before. That being said, they are really pretty and I'm glad they came in this box. I use a ton of different eyes hadow brushes and I feel like you can never have enough. They are always getting dirty, breaking, and getting old so its good to have back ups.

Tarte Dream Big Eyeshadow Palette $30.00
Beauty Box Throw Down: BoxyCharm Aug 2019 vs Ipsy Glam Bag Plus Aug 2019
I was the most excited about getting this eyeshadow palettte. I'm a big fan of Tarte in general but especially their shadows/palettes. These colors aren't unique but they are pretty. The palette also smells like Vanilla which is heavenly. The only negative about this palette is it has no matte transition shades. Other than that its a really nice palette to get in this box and have in general. I used the palette today and think these are great colors for a quick everyday look.

IPSY PROMOTIONS
Ipsy does their promotions different than BoxyCharm. Instead of offering discount codes for purchases on the featured brands websites, they offer cash back products featured in that month's glam bag. You are able to purchase full sized products at are sampled in the Glam Bag that month. The products are discounted from normal price and you can get cash bag on the purchase. They also offer "Ipsy Offers"that are discounted beauty bundles from different brands. Lastly, you are allowed to add "Add Ons" to your Glam Bag Plus which are other items featured that month that are not part of your personal box. These items are heavily discounted. Lastly, they offer "Mystery Bags".

TOTAL VALUE: $178.00

Overall I was pretty happy with this box! I'm glad I had no issues this time around. I was also happy with the products that they sent me for the most part. There will always be one or two products that you don't love in a subscription box and that's okay. As long as you really like one or two items in the box I think its worth it. My favorite item in the box is definitely the Tarte palette. I also am excited to try the IT Cosmetics foundation and the makeup brushes. I'm not sure how long I will keep up Glam Bag Plus but with these new additions to the subscription I am hoping I will keep it going for a while. Next month looks like a pretty good box so far based of the spoilers I've seen so far.

WHO WINS THE BEAUTY BOX THROW DOWN? Ipsy Glam Bag Plus

This one was hard and even though I would say its a TIE product offering wise, the total value is higher in Ipsy Glam Bag Plus. I am really excited about 2 of the 5 items in BoxyCharm and 2-3 of the products in GBP. Both had 3 well known brands and 2 indie brands. It was a close tie but GBP is the winner for me this month.
