Review: SmashBox Cover Shot Eye Palette in Ablaze

Hey Guys,
Today I am going to share  my thoughts on the Smashbox Cover Shot Eye Palette in Ablaze. I won this palette in an instagram giveaway. Thanks to Teresa for this palette! You can check out her instagram HERE. SmashBox collaborated with Shay Mitchell (Emily on Pretty Little Liars) and came out with 7 different mini palettes. Each palette had a color theme. I was able to pick from any of them for my giveaway prize. The Ablaze palette stood out to me the most. Keep reading to hear more about this palette!

This palette seems to be available online only on the Sephora site. It's also available on the SmashBox site.

The palette is pretty tiny and is great for travel. It comes with 8 shades that are a mix of matte and shimmer finishes. They call the shades in the palette "hot desert inspired shades". Half of the shadows are warm burnt orange/gold/bronzey shades. The other half are berries/pink shades. I don't get where the pinks come into play in a "desert" palette but it definitely caught my eye none the less.

On to my thoughts:
I was pretty surprised at how small this palette was. The price isn't bad but I thought the palette would be a bit bigger. That being said, it could easily fit in a purse or wristlet. It would also be great for traveling if you don't want to bring a lot of makeup. When it comes to the shadows, they have really nice pigmentation. They also last without any major creasing or fading. I have only used the colors that seem to "belong" together in looks and haven't really mixed the berry shades with the orange shades. I'm sure it can be done, I'm just not that creative lol. I need to see some tutorials of how people use these shades because I think it is more versatile than how I use it. I've only created a couple looks so far with this palette. I do wish there was a light/medium brown matte shade since I practically ALWAYS use a color like that as a transition. Other than that, I was glad to see a matte bone/brow shade. I honestly thought I was going to love the orange/bronze shade more than the berry shades but I have fell in love with a look that I created using the berry shades. I think I am going to do a quick eye tutorial for the look I created so keep an eye out for it!  I definitely want to play around with more of the orange/bronze shades and experiment with those. The matte orange shade is very orange/red which I am not used it. I think it will be a little less dramatic once I have a tan. That being said, I'm pretty happy with this palette and do recommend it. After trying it, I am interested in the other Cover Shot eye palettes like the Golden Hour Palette.
