Hair Tutorial-Boho Chic Ponytail

Hi Ladies,
This is a cute ponytail tutorial I got off  of Pinterest:

How To Do a Boho Chic Ponytail

Steps :
  • 1 : Curl the top layer of hair with the rest of your hair messy/curly. Mine was kind of curling from no heat curls the night before.
  • 2 : Tease your hair starting just past your bangs on top, back to where you will secure your ponytail
  • 3 : Gather your hair in place where you want it, not tight at all, and secure with an elastic.
  • 4 : Pull tight, then pull out strands as needed to create a “messy on purpose” type of look.
  • 5 : Wrap an extra piece of hair around the elastic.
  • 6 : And You’re done!

It achieve this look you will need a bronze colored eyeliner, black liquid liner, a shimmer or metallic mid colored green, a matte or slightly shimmered brown, and a matte nude color for the brow. Follow the steps below. I would love to see your versions of this. Post them below!

Fall Fashion Trends

Its that time of year again when you need to switch gears and pack up all of your sundresses, flip flops, and shorts. Fall is coming fast and its always good to be prepared. Shopping for the Fall has always been my favorite. See what's new out there for trends and have fun!

Here are some Fall Fashion Trends for 2013:
  • Flashy outerwear- We are seeing more detailed and out of the box jackets.Whether is be crazy prints or detailed lines and accents.
  • Hats-From beanies to sloucy hats all are trending this season.
  • Patterns- such as Houndstooth and Herringbone. These patterns aren't just for men's clothing or work attire. These prints have been seen all over the runways during fashion week.
  • Leopard Print-I personally feel like leopard never goes out of style whether it be winter, spring, summer, or fall. This is a classic print that you can make edgy or classy, dress it up or dress it down.
  • Emerald Green-This color has been talked about for a while now. It is the hot color trend for 2013.
  • Layering-This is the best way to gradually move from one season to the next. Layering tanks, sweaters, scarfs, shirt and leggings is a must.
  • Peplums-These were big this summer and are just as big going into the fall. I have seen many short sleeved and long sleeved peplums out there. I personally love this look. Its a great way to dress up a casual look.
  • Leather-It seems like fall and leather go hand in hand. Every year around this time you see leather jackets, leather boots and purses. I don't think this trend will ever fade out.
  • Military inspiration-This trend has been around for for many years but has changed over time. At one point in time the camo print was huge. The trend is now focusing on military fabrics, colors, and styles and cuts. I have seen a lot of Military style blazers, blouses, and sweaters with buttons, tabs, and other accents. The olive green/army green color is also trending this season along with this style.

Hair Tutorial-Stranded Twist

Hey Girls,
Is there ever a time that you wake up for work and just don't feel like doing your hair? This happens to me all the time. Below is a quick and easy twist you can do to the front of your hair to add a little something to natural waves or a pony on a low maintenance hair day. I also do this frequently when my layers in my bangs are growing out.

Stitch Fix-An Online Personal Styling Service For Women

About a month ago my friend was telling me about how her boyfriend uses this professional styling service that sends you items each month. You decide what you want to keep and what you want to send back. Now being a complete clothing junkie, I was interested right off the bat. The problem was that this service was only for men. I decided to do a google search to find a similar offering for women. That is when I found Stitch Fix.

So this is how it works: You sign up and fill out this very detailed fashion profile. The profile asks about your height, body type, etc as well as styles you like and don't like, how you want your clothes to fit (tight, loose, straight) , and what part of your body you like to accentuate. They then show pictures of different styles of clothing and ask you to rate the items in each picture. You are asked to let them know if there are colors or prints you love or don't like at all. Lastly, they ask the price range you want to spend on the items and what type of items you want them to send.

Once you fill out the profile you can decide when you want to get your first fix. In the fix they will send you 5 items consisting of clothing items and/or accessories. You choose if you want all dresses, a mixture of items, a scarf etc. You can do the fixes monthly, or on a one time basis (whenever you feel like it). If you decide to cancel the monthly fixes at any time you will not be charged. Once you schedule your fix, they ship out your items on that date and you will be charged a $20.00 styling fee. If you don't keep the items you do still have to pay the $20.00 styling fee. However, if you keep even one item, the $20.00 fee gets subtracted from the cost of the item. If you decided to keep all 5 items, not only does the $20.00 get subtracted but you get 25% off your entire order! How cool is that?

Another cool thing about Stitch Fix is with each item they send, they also send a picture card that shows how you can pair items you already have with this specific item. This concept is really awesome especially for people that hate to shop, are fashion impaired, or are too busy to go to shopping. It is also great for people like me who just love fashion in general.

If you refer friends and they decide to try out Stitch Fix, you get a $25.00 credit once their first fix gets sent out. Who doesn't love free money?

Now, time for my review of Stitch Fix. I was super excited for my first fix and when I got it I felt like a kid on Christmas. I loved all the pieces. I got 4 shirts and a scarf. Everything fit great but the pricing wasn't where I wanted it to be. When I was filling out the profile I wrote "the cheaper the better" for how much I want to spend on the items. The next price point up was $50.00-$100.00. I was hoping to get items all under $50.00 each but I didn't. I really loved 2 of the shirts but they were more than what I wanted to spend ($68.00 each). Also, one of the shirts had a pull in it. So unfortunately, I sent back all the items. After you get your fix you log into your account and fill out a survey on the items that they sent you. How you liked the fit, color, price etc. I made sure to note my disappointment in price. I also noted the shirt with the pull in it and how I would have liked more variety in what they send me. The customer service team emailed me back assuring me that the defective shirt was not Stitch Fix quality and they said that if I wanted to try another fix they would credit me the $20.00 styling fee. I agreed to do so.

Here are the two shirts that I loved but sent back:

Fashion For Less-Go Jane

GOjane  is one of my favorite sites for inexpensive and cute shoes. I have purchased from them several times over the past couple of years and never spent more than $40.00 on a pair of shoes. Their average price shoes range from $25-$35.00. You can definitely find some under $20.00 which is a steal. GOjane also sells clothes, accessories, jewelry, etc but I feel like their shoes are where they shine. The shoes are not super high quality but they also do not fall apart. I still have and wear all the shoes I purchased from them. They have held up pretty well over 2 winters. GOjane frequently has sales and free shipping offers.

Right now they are having 20% off of regular priced styles through 9/19 with offer code SEPT20R.

Here are some cute fall boots from their site:

Products Worth Your While- Hot Buns

Hey Ladies,
Here is my review of hot buns:

I saw the infomercial on tv a while back and decided to buy it and try it out. The directions in and on the box are pretty self explanatory. The kit comes with two size buns. Small and large. The small is a little too small for me personally but would work well with shorter or thin hair. The Hot Bun is a little tricky at first but once you get the hang of it its pretty simple.

Like any hair style, practice makes perfect. My buns take anywhere from 5-15 minutes depending on how anal I am that day. If you are good at not having bumps when putting your hair in a ponytail you should be good. That seems to be the hardest thing for me. A trick I have found helpful is to either wet your hair with a spray bottle (not your ponytail, only where you are pulling the hair back). Also, you can use a bristle brush and push all the bumps towards the elastic where your hair will be hidden. When I straighten my hair and don't wash it the next day, I tend to have an easier time with not having bumps around my ponytail.

Get the Look for Less

As part of my blog I want to help women find affordable alternatives to celebrity wardrobes. These posts will be called "Get the Look for Less". If you love a certain look that a celeb has worn, email me a picture and I will do my best to find an "inexpensive" alternative. Now, I am NOT a professional stylist nor have I had schooling. Fashion is just something that I have always loved. If you do not agree with my findings, that is fine, but please, if you can't say anything nice, do not say it at all. Thank you :)
